The Center for Enriched Living is an organization that focuses on helping those with developmental disabilities to enjoy a good quality of life, be fully included in the community and achieve personal success. Founded in 1968 after two mothers approached a social worker about getting their developmentally disabled children into after school activities, Center for Enriched Living now serves 450 people annually in their building in Riverwoods. This building allows them to serve even more people with disabilities as it hosts a gymnasium, arts-and-crafts room, teaching kitchen, computer lab and accessible garden. Center for Enriched Living continues to open its doors even wider as it integrates a universal design throughout the building to ensure that everyone, no matter their ability, can navigate and use the center with ease. Center for Enriched Living provides its members the opportunity to make new friends and acquire skills for social inclusion and independent living.
GCG sent a team of people to serve at Center for Enriched Living to help with their gardening project for 2017. The team took out old plants and replanted new ones to be ready for spring.
