On Saturday, February 22, a group from GCG Financial put on their dancing shoes and got their groove on during Lurie Children’s Dance Marathon. The goal of this event was to raise money for Lurie Children’s Hospital during the Chicago Dance Marathon.
The day was filled with activities purposed with the goal of not sitting for a full 8 hours. The event started at 9 a.m. with GCG meeting the families who volunteered to share their stories. This was followed by dancing, Zumba, lunch, a live band, Lurie Children’s Got Talent and an energy filled power hour that closed out the day.
Standing for 8 hours didn’t seem like that big of a deal to the team, but as the day went on, they started to feel fatigue set in. However, GCG was determined to meet their goal, remembering the kids who can’t dance or even stand on their own. This created a day that was both physically and emotionally taxing, but they all left with fuller hearts.
Everyone was amazed to hear the stories of each family. It put the resilience, bravery and strength of the children and their families into perspective. The whole experience pushed supporters to have a different outlook and appreciation for life.
As a team, GCG raised just under $2,000 and the event as a whole raised just under $261,000. We cannot wait for next year!
