GCG partnered with the Max Schewitz Foundation to provide HeartSmart EKG tests to all Lake Forest Academy students at the start of September this year. That’s 245 EKG tests!
That day, 11 students received a limited echocardiogram to clarify findings on an EKG or as part of an extra inspection protocol for certain athletes. One student was even found with Wolfe Parkinson White Syndrome (WPW), which causes rapid heartbeat. If left untreated, WPW can lead to sudden cardiac arrest.
Because of these tests, students can undergo treatment or learn prevention methods to lead healthy and happy lives.
The foundation’s Executive Director, Kathy Aykroid, said, “We truly appreciate your commitment to our foundation and are so thankful for your continued support. Volunteers are the heart and soul of our foundation!”
What an important way to start off the school year. We enjoyed this community giving event and already committed to volunteer for the screening in September 2020!
